Solsticios

National Geographic Education. (n.d.). meciona que ‘’Un solsticio es un acontecimiento en el que los polos de un planeta están más inclinados hacia la estrella que orbitan o más alejados de ella. En nuestro planeta, los solsticios se definen por la declinación solar, es decir, la latitud de la Tierra en la que el Sol está directamente sobre nosotros al mediodía. En la Tierra, los solsticios son fenómenos bianuales en los que la declinación solar alcanza el Trópico de Cáncer en el norte y el Trópico de Capricornio en el sur. Durante el solsticio de junio (marcado entre el 20 y el 22 de junio), la declinación solar es de unos 23,5°N (el Trópico de Cáncer). Durante el solsticio de diciembre (marcado entre el 20 y el 23 de diciembre), la declinación solar es de unos 23,5°S (el Trópico de Capricornio)’’.

On our planet, solstices are defined by solar declination, that is, the latitude of the Earth at which the Sun is directly overhead at noon. On Earth, solstices are biannual phenomena in which the solar declination reaches the Tropic of Cancer in the north and the Tropic of Capricorn in the south. During the June solstice (marked between June 20 and 22), the solar declination is about 23.5°N (the Tropic of Cancer). During the December solstice (marked between December 20 and 23), the solar declination is about 23.5°S (the Tropic of Capricorn)''.

Cambridge University(n.d.), mentions that ''Either of the two times of the year when the center of the Sun is directly over the equator and day and night are of approximately equal length''.
